“Never having heard of Neutral Milk Hotel, the story emanating from a song confused me at first, even as it drew me in. Gradually, author Matthew Kressel doles out enough details to reveal what’s going on, and the vision is magical. I’m not sure if I’d recommend listening to “In The Aeroplane Over the Sea” before reading this story or not, because assembling the puzzle pieces was enjoyable.
