A few reviews of “The Meeker and the All-Seeing Eye” have come in. Tangent Online says:
“The Meeker and the All-Seeing Eye” by Matthew Kressel is an excellent story of a single huge creature, the Eye, roaming the universe with its story telling companion…This story is very entertaining, right from the start. You get a strong insight into these odd creatures with huge life times and some hints at all sorts of interesting cultures they have come across. The ending is excellent…I recommend this story – it’s definitely worth reading.” (full review here)
At Locus Online, Lois Tilton says:
“A far-future horror story, an effective game of slow reveal, in which we gradually discover that the true is not what we had supposed.” (read full review)
And Maggie Clark (who’s excellent story “A Gift of Time” is in the same issue) says:
“an evocative twist on a familiar, far-flung-future template…this story reminded me of both Asimov’s “The Last Question” and Sheckley’s “The Specialist.” I most enjoyed the structural movements in this story–the lulling descriptions of millennia’s-worth of travel in the first section, the gradually unsettling intimations of something Not Quite Right in the middle, and the seamless shift in vantage-points by the end. A quite vivid and controlled bit of sci-fi!” (read full review)
I’ve been quite happy with the responses to the story so far!

The Meeker and the All-Seeing Eye is a fantastic story. You did a great job with it. I got that same feeling I had when I watched the movie A.I. for the first time.

While i was at work (at a machine shop) i listened to this story trough The Clarkesworld Podcast to make my work day more bearable. I really enjoyed the story, a true psychological mindf**k. At one point i was so involved with the story that i stopped working and froze while looking at the table. At that exact moment my boss walked in and saw me frozen like that, but i did not get in trouble 😐 . Again thank you so much for this great disturbing tale, it will stay with me for a long time.
