New Story in Tales to Terrify

My horror / dark-fantasy story “The Words That Maketh Murder” * has been released as a podcast over at Tales to Terrify, narrated by Maurine McLean. The podcast also includes the story “Real People” by T. R. North.

Kimmy, a former software developer for government black ops weapons projects, moves into a Queens, New York neighborhood and begins hearing strange voices coming from the old train yard behind her apartment. Parts of my story are true, and I’ll leave it to the listener to decide which!

Listen here.

* Yes, it’s a PJ Harvey reference!

Paula Guran on “Will You Meet Me There, Out Beyond the Bend?”

Over at Locus, Paula Guran reviews recent horror fiction and has this to say about my recent story, “Will You Meet Me There, Out Beyond the Bend?” in Nightmare:

“There are a number of the dead in Kressel’s tale. They are a melancholy bunch, always waiting for life to find them again. It has been said that horror is about the unknowable and that death is the greatest unknown of all. Kressel paints a good picture of death that anyone is sure to fear.”

New Story Out Today in Nightmare Magazine

My story “Will You Meet Me There, Out Beyond the Bend?” is out today in Nightmare. A bright and cheery story just in time for the holidays! 😉 Here’s how it begins:

She stands on the side of the road in the dewy high grass and waits. She wanders among the tangled weeds heavy with crickets, and waits. She drifts among the gathering fireflies blinking their yellow-green light into the darkening forest. And waits, and waits, and waits. They will come, she knows. They will come and see her and take her away from this dreadful place. They will clothe her and feed her and wrap her in a warm blanket, and everything will be perfect again. She knows it’s only a matter of time.
