My word count was low this week as I worked my way through a pivotal and difficult section of the novel. I’m not as interested in word counts as some are, as I usually find the actual number of words written to be a poor metric of quality. But when my count is low (e.g. like 200 words per sitting) I still feel mild frustration at not making forward progress. However, having struggled through this difficult chapter or two where a pivotal and highly metaphorical (literally metaphorical if that makes sense) scene takes place, I can say with confidence I’m happy with how it turned out. Now I can focus on the third and final act, which will be grand.

For those who are still reading and interested in the book: the novel is a far future space opera about a young woman whose father has been arrested while running scams on a space station and then mysteriously vanishes from prison. Her quest to find out where he’s gone leads her on a mind-bending odyssey through the galaxy that involves alien gods, runaway planets, and lots of foul language.
